Engaged by an architect and interior designer to design the landscape for their own home, our Little House Garden was an enjoyable collaboration. Our primary goal was to create effortless outdoor spaces for entertaining while ensuring the garden reflected the character of the newly renovated 1900s heritage cottage.
Retaining and revitalising the site's existing oak trees was important to our clients. These mature trees provide welcome summer shade over a new entertaining lawn, while winding garden paths meander beneath their canopy, drawing the eye towards expansive views across the surrounding bushland.
A large established hedge at the front of the property was retained and carefully restored. It creates a serene sense of privacy within the garden while adding a sense of drama as the concealed landscape beyond is gradually revealed.
The existing site was overgrown and chaotic. Clearing the vegetation uncovered sweeping views across the township of Daylesford, transforming the way the property connects to its wider landscape.
A restrained palette of green and white planting echoes the timeless character of the cottage. Soft, layered planting is contrasted with clipped buxus spheres that introduce structure and form, while birch trees add lightness and seasonal movement. The result is a refined garden defined by clarity, texture and expansive views.
